| Smokers are available from literally dozens if not hundreds of companies. We also build smokers, but ours, like everyone else's, are not like everyone else's. Does that make sense? Oh, we can build em like theirs. We have the Round kind made from bulk propane tanks. These work extremely well and have a certain appeal, especially in the BBQ circuit. There's nothing wrong with them, in fact I kind of like them. There are Short One's, Fat One's, Long One's, some that are made just for Smoking Ribs, some just for Roasting Hogs, and some that even look like Hogs. Some are Gas Fired, some are Wood Fired, some use Charcoal. Each has it's own characteristics and I dare say "personality". That's what makes each their own, in their own way. |
My current Hog Roaster is more then a Roaster, it is a Rotisserie Smoker for Whole Hogs, Ribs, and whatever. It can also be used as a large Grill. It looks like nothing else that anyone else has. It's all Stainless Steel, was designed for ease of loading and unloading a large HOG (up to around 300 lb.) It's an offset firebox design with the firebox all across the back of the unit. It is more utilitarian then fancy, but does the job it was designed for. It isn't one of those made from an old Ob-round Oil Tank. This is a large box design with a front "door" that opens up overhead. This leaves the entire rotisserie 'Spit Rod' accessible. The Spit Rod is designed to be set in place easily. It loads in seconds. That's important when the HOG weighs 300 lb. I have also built a large smoker that looked like a Steam Locomotive. I am currently building another one that will be extremely detailed. Another design is like none other that anyone has. Want one for your back yard that no one else has? Let's talk. I specialize in building the most unusual, unique units. This makes them expensive, but then again you don't want just everyone to be able to have one, right? |
| As to price. Smokers start at about $50 to $75 for the really simple little charcoal fired boxes and range anywhere you can imagine and perhaps where you can't imagine. The 'traditional' Propane Tank designs run in the neighborhood of $1700 to several thousand dollars. It just depends on how much is put into them in the way of convenience, accessories, and detail. Some of the designs work better then others, but most work rather well, especially once you have used them a few times and learned what does work and what doesn't. |
